Interesting Invertebrate

These photos are I think of a House Centipede, not an insect because they have more than six legs but a closely related invertebrate that requires a moist habitat. That would explain why he was an uninvited guest in my shower the other morning then!
He certainly seems to fit the description of this Wikipedia entry:- Scutigera coleoptrata, is a typically yellowish-grey centipede with up to 15 pairs of legs. Originally endemic to the Mediterranean region, the species has spread to other parts of the world, where it usually lives in human homes.

  1. how unusual that one is; good you 'found' it so you could remove it outdoors

  2. Amazing patterns on the legs with an almost transparent quality to them. I've never studied one that closely as it usually scuttles away too quickly!

  3. I am delighted when I see these around, they eat spiders which I hate! Diane

  7. Had he been found in my shower the neighbors would have though there was murder happening in my house.

You must be one cool lady to head for the camera before a shoe.
