ABC Wednesday - J - Junk - Victoria Harbour - Hong Kong

One of my favourite views of Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong is one that contains the magnificent  old junk the Aqua Luna.   Perfect for the letter J for ABC Wednesday

Junk in Hong Kong Harbour

Junk Description Courtesy of Wikipedia

A junk is an ancient Chinese sailing vessel design which is still in use today. Junks may have developed from very early bamboo rafts which had a high stern. They are first known to have been used as sea going vessels as early as the second century AD. They evolved in the later years of the Han Dynasty (206BC - 220AD) and were used throughout Asia for extensive ocean voyages. They were found and are still found although in lesser numbers all over South-East Asia and India, although primarily in China, perhaps most famously of all in Hong Kong.

This photo was taken on March 4th 2010 in Hong Kong Harbour. If you are interested in reading more about our trips to Hong Kong please call by my Travel Tales blog.
