The cactus flower has such a short life, I took this series of photos on the morning of July 26th and within twenty four hours it was no more.

Welcome to my photography blog, where I share the world as seen through my lens. All commenter's will receive a visit back from me but no longer individual replies unless you have a question, which I will respond to here. Your praise and kind words are always appreciated but to keep saying thankyou to you all individually, in an original way is not easy. So I am saying it here instead, a massive thankyou from my heart for all the wonderful support, your comments are a great encouragement to me.
I am glad that you were there to share these lovely photos with us. 24 hours does not give you long, I probably would have waited to the next day and missed out! Have a good day Diane

Isn't it glorious how such a beautiful bloom can come from a prickly and not so pretty stem!!!

Wonderful to be able to enjoy the blooms, even if it's for a short time! Kate ABC team
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing cactus flower! Now you have the photos though, so you can keep enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteLovely flower!! Great macro of the centre.

Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteWow! It looks big and interesting ! (*゚o゚*)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing so precious a cactus flower.
Love the center of the flower pictures. And your banner photo is amazing, I love all the details! How fun you are living in Italy. Thanks for stopping by, Laura
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, that is some beautiful close-up detail. Capturing the beauty in such a short life is a satisfying part of photography for me. Loved your pictures!
ReplyDeleteIt's a very Zen flower! And you were in the right place at the right time.
ReplyDeleteJust stunning! To think the bloom only lasts the one day....it puts forth such an effort to share such beauty!
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame they live for a few ours, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'm always very happy when ours come out!
I hope everything is well with you, sorry for not commenting much lately, Summer is always a crazy period for work and things to do at home, I'm taking advantage of a very hot Sunday for a big bloggy catch up :)

Hi, i saw this cactus on Relindis side bar. I have our night bloomer posted today. we are in Florida, not sure where you are. but this one is a night bloomer to. all the beauty comes out at night and only last one day. ours blooms only in the dark and droops at daylight. our neighbors have one like yours. they are so pretty. did you know bats drink the nectar from yours and mine? in the dark.
ReplyDeletejust saw you are in Italy. i have noticed the flowers there are just like the ones here in Florida on other blogs.
ReplyDeleteThe white petals are so delicate looking. Lovely images of all perspectives, Lindy. Glad you took the photos the day they were there. :)
ReplyDeleteI love white flowers and this one is beautiful and fascinating. How sad that the blossoming time was so short, but at least you got to capture it. The macro shots are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHOLY cow that's an amazing flower...... Gorgeous captures, ma'am.... Very awesome!! :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures. I love that flower, beautiful colors. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures you show.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a good day / good new week.

Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteCacti are one of my favourite plants, due in no small part, to their ability to thrive in neglected conditions! (I am no huge gardener, or houseplant collector, as you might have guessed!)
It is such a shame that their flowering span is so brief, as there are some brilliant examples of flower shapes and colours.
I am not a big fan of white flowers generally, but yours looks like such a perfect specimen and is almost 'snowy' white in its purity.
Lovely photos, but then they always are.
Yvonne
For the Cactus flower life is short but beautiful. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous bloom. Hope all is well with you Lindy!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
Lovely shots of these delightful flowers!
ReplyDeleteWow the cactus flower is indeed so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou are incredibly gifted - beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Sure is pretty!
ReplyDeleteI didn’t know cactus flowers have such ephemeral lives. The white flower with the tinge of pale pink is so lovely. My morning glories are also fleeting. They are open during the early morning time and close by mid-day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous flower! Its fragile impermanence only enhances its beauty. At least it's found immortality through your stunning photos!
ReplyDeleteEchonopsis blooms are some of the most beautiful cacti flowers. I've posted mine here: http://oeirasdailyphoto.blogspot.pt/2012/05/night-bloom.html :-)
ReplyDeleteWOW! That is a very short lifespan for a flower.
ReplyDeleteDelightful captures of this stunning bloom.
