We grow Kiwi in our garden and this photo was taken on September 21st 2012, they will be ready to harvest in early December. The full name is Kiwifruit ( Actinidia deliciosa) but shortened to Kiwi in many parts of the world. It is an edible berry that grows on a vine, if you are interested in more information I have included a link for you. Kiwifruit - Wikipedia This week I have joined the meme for the letter K.

Is the Kiwi crop strictly for personal consumption or is it a product for export?
ReplyDeleteStrictly for own use, we store the crop in our cellar and they will last us through to June.

Deleteoh wow that must be great growing your own kiwi's. I eat them every day but they are not cheap here.
ReplyDeleteMmh yummy!
ReplyDeleteMy dad has tried to grow Kiwi plants for many years with no success, probably due to our soil (they also need a lot of water too).
Finally this Summer there were 50 little Kiwi, imagine his delight..I have no idea if they're still there after the big hailstorm we had today, a lot of plants and vegetables got damaged.
Anyway, enjoy your lovely fruits!

Kiwis are such an interesting fruit. You have a lovely shot of them here in your garden. It surprised me that they won't be picked until Dec because they look ready now. Is there anything you DON'T grow in your lovely garden? :)

ReplyDeleteI like Kiwi -- a few dedicated gardeners are able to grow them here in Oregon, but they're never seen at local produce markets -- I still buy them once in a while at the supermarket. They keep well and are a nice change. The tree (or I guess bush) is pretty.

Kiwis are my favourite source of vitamin C. It's funny that a kiwi is a piece of fruit, or a bird or a New Zealander. Who was first?
ReplyDeleteYour blog is beautiful and interesting! I saw the other blogs too! They are great!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Wil, ABC Wednesday Team.
