Macro Monday - Nests of Pine Processionary Caterpillar - Troodos Mountains - Cyprus

Whilst on holiday in Cyprus last week I came across these fascinating tent nests that use pine trees as hosts. Locals told me it is the larva of a poisonous caterpillar and thanks to Wikipedia I have found out it is pine processionary caterpillar and contact with the hairs of the caterpillar can cause an allergic reaction!

 I thought it made a good subject for this photography blog.

Fun With a Ceiling

Whilst I was deciding which photo to share for Macro Monday I was also having a play with different finishes. It is fun to see what we can do with our photos these days! This started off as a photo of a ceiling at Polesden Lacey  by zooming in and colouring this is what I ended up with. Something a little different for my submission to Macro Monday.


This photo was taken on a recent visit to Polesden Lacey a National Trust property in Surrey, England.

During a recent walk on the beach in Tywyn whilst exploring the Ancient Forest I discovered this Starfish that the storms had thrown up onto the dunes.

Hearts and Pebbles

As most of you know I will not be feeling like celebrating Valentine's Day later this month. However when I found this stone on the beach last Friday afternoon, I saw it as a good omen to get me back into photo blogging which I have been neglecting recently. A perfect specimen for the memes I am joining today

A Pollen Laden Bee

Today I am sharing some photos I took on July 27th of an already heavily pollen laden bee visiting our hibiscus to collect even more pollen. It is amazing he managed to fly!

Commonly called Goat's beard, this plant goes by many different common names including:  Common Salsify, Meadow Salsify, Yellow Salsify, Goatsbeard and Jack-Go-To-Bed-At-Noon because the flowers are often closed around mid day.
