Welcome to LindyLouMac's World in Photos, my photography blog, where I shared photos, all taken by me between June 2010 and March 2017.  I hope you have enjoyed following my journey in photography as I have learnt to appreciate the world through my camera lens.

Although this blog has now ceased publication I will be continuing to blog and I am sincerely hoping that my many followers here will move with me to Travel Tales, which will from time to time incorporate the photography memes from LindyLouMac's World in Photography that I enjoy taking part in.  I sincerely hope that you will if already doing so continue to follow me on my future life adventures, wherever they may take me.

ABC Wednesday - I - Ironwork - Bangor Pier - Wales

My choice today for ABC Wednesday Letter I is Ironwork photographed on Bangor Pier during a visit last Autumn.

'Bangor pier was designed by Westminster based JJ Webster and was built for a total of £14,475. The pier was completed in 1896, and was opened to the public on May 14th.Once construction had finished pier was 1550 feet (470m) long. The amazing length of the pier made it the ninth longest in England and Wales.

The pier was built mainly of steel and iron columns; the decking was wooden and had covered kiosks at regular intervals along its length. At the end of the pier a boat landing stage was constructed, this was initially linked to a narrow gauge railway link for baggage carrying. After careful thought and planning the railway link was removed not long after it was built.

In 1971 it was decided that the pier was no longer safe for the public to use and it was closed. The arfon borough council took ownership and in 1974 decided demolition was the only answer. The local council put in an objection and gained a preservation order. The preservation order made the pier a grade 2 listed building. The listed status helped the seaside pier considerably as it was considered one of the finest 3 piers in Britain at the time.

Later on in 1975 the local council bought the pier for a mere one pence, the next task was raising funds for the repairs. The fund rising took a total of seven years to complete. Later on down the line, after the funding was in place the rebuild of the pier took a further six years to finish off.

The project was helped considerably by the national heritage memorial fund. On the 7th May 1988 the seaside pier was reopened to the public'.

However by 2011 more expensive renovations were needed, the timeline of which can be read on The National Piers Society Website.   Thankfully the Pier remains open.

Those of you that follow me on a regular basis will know that I love the sea and the seashore so that had to be my choice for my return to ABC Wednesday . It is the first time I have joined in Round 19 and it is already the letter S. Good to be back playing along and visiting other meme entries.

Black Boy Inn - Signs

It is six months since I last posted here on my Photography blog and I have missed doing so.  I am now back after a very busy few months, with lots of photos which I am looking forward to sharing on the blog.

As it is Thursday I am returning by joining in the Meme today for Signs

                                                       


The Black Boy Inn is one of the oldest inns in North Wales, dating back to 1522 and is within Caernarfon's historic town walls. An easy walk from the town centre and 13th-century castle, this is where I was lucky enough to stay for the night on my last road trip.

This photo was taken during a recent visit to see the Weeping Window Cascade which is on tour of the UK and is currently at Caernarfon Castle.

A Snowdonia View - Wales - Wednesday Waters

Yesterday afternoon I went out with a local walking group for a short walk along part of the Welsh Coastal Path to Barmouth via the bridge over the estuary and this was the view.  Truly beautiful, it is views like this that remind how lucky I am to be living here.

Local Landscape

The photo I am sharing today with Our World Tuesday is of my local landscape. This was taken on a Sunday afternoon walk earlier this month and is just a few minutes stroll from my house. What a blessing it is to have such beauty on my doorstep.

After six weeks of travelling in Asia, it was lovely to return home to Wales and the beautiful display of cottage garden flowers in my garden.

 

ABC Wednesday - L - Locality

I do not seem to have had much time for blogging in recent weeks, but I have not given up! The weather in recent weeks has been beautiful and I have made the most of it, getting out and about with my camera. Currently the beautiful weather and a busy life have been keeping me away from social media, not such a bad thing really!

A Personal Photo Challenge - Animals - Jellyfish

This month the subject for A Personal Photo Challenge is 'Animals'. As I do not have pets any more to take portraits of, I decided to take the challenge to the extreme and have featured a Jellyfish! I found this one on the beach in Tywyn last weekend and do not think I have ever seen such a large one in the UK before!

During the winter months it has often been possible to see parts of the Ancient Petrified Forest, hidden under the shifting sands of Tywyn Beach. The photo I am sharing here today and with Outdoor Wednesday is one of many photos of the forest I have taken recently.
